A client referred through our legal aid clinic had received a first-instance refusal of an asylum application, based largely on a country-conditions assessment the client's own account directly contradicted. Without the means to fund private representation, the appeal would otherwise have gone unargued.
Lawyers volunteering under our Asylum & Refugee Casework program, one of the firm's three standing pro bono commitments, prepared the appeal, gathering corroborating country-conditions evidence and preparing the client thoroughly for the hearing itself.
The appeal succeeded, overturning the original refusal. This case reflects the kind of work logged across the more than 300 pro bono hours our lawyers contribute every year.
